Faculty of Philosophy

Parallel sessions & coffee breaks will take place at the building of the Faculty of Philosophy.

The Faculty of Philosophy building is located at the very heart of the city center. All venues are close to each other near Knez Mihailova Street, the main pedestrian zone in Belgrade. The urban neighborhood offers numerous gastronomic, cultural, and leisure opportunities.

The Faculty, founded in 1838, is the oldest and most prominent institution of higher education in Serbia and among the oldest in South-Eastern Europe. Today, it is a modern institution of higher education in compliance with contemporary trends in the European academic space and upholding a high standard of academic excellence. At present, the Faculty of Philosophy teaching staff employs about 255 professors and enrolls around 6,000 students at all academic levels offering bachelor, master and doctoral programs for nine different social sciences and humanities departments. A part of the Faculty is also a number of research units (institutes and research centers) focusing on numerous fundamental and practical research projects.

Today, the Faculty of Philosophy is also a place of student gatherings, debates, book promotions, conferences, and conventions, a forum for the generation and exchange of critical and cutting-edge ideas.

University of Belgrade Rectorate building

The Rectorate, also known as Captain Miša’s Edifice, is the University of Belgrade’s central administrative building. This authentic structure of the Rectorate was built from 1858 to 1863 as a private palace. One of the wealthiest Belgrade merchants, Captain Miša Anastasijević bequeathed it to his homeland for educational purposes. The accompanying conference events will be held in the beautiful inner courtyard of this mid-nineteenth-century building.

The opening ceremony, keynote lectures & closing ceremony will take place in the University of Belgrade Rectorate festive hall (Address: Studentski trg 1, 11000 Belgrade, Stari Grad). The festive hall is located on the second floor of the Rectorate building.

Welcome cocktail, lunch breaks, & farewell event will take place in the inner courtyard of the University of Belgrade Rectorate building.

How to get to the venues?

Since all the conference venues are located in the Old town rich in history, we recommend walking and sightseeing, especially in fine May weather!

Public transport:

  • Buses 31 and EKO2, minibus E9, as well as trolleys 28, 29, and 41 have their last stop at the Students Square (Studentski trg), which is in close walking distance from all program-related venues.
  • Buses 24, 26, 27, 37, and 43 all have stations at the Republic Square (Trg Republike), which is a 5-7-minute walk from all venues.
  • Buses 16, 27E, 35, 56, 60, 60L, 65, 67, 71, 72, 75, 77, 84, 95, and EKO1, as well as minibus E6 all stop at the station Zeleni venac, which is a 6-10-minute walk from program related venues.
  • We also recommend bus 79, or trams 2, 5 and 10, and a 10-12 minute walk to the venues.
